At COPY-IDENT, we put our full effort into every individual case submitted to us. But that’s not all we do; we continuously strive to stay at the forefront of developments within copyright law.
Over the last year, we have added numerous partners to our legal department, significantly extending the reach of our enforcement efforts. We don’t just aim to cover more geographic areas; we believe we owe it to our customers to push the boundaries of copyright protection.
LEGAL DEVELOPMENTS IN COPYRIGHT
In December 2023, we held our first COPY-IDENT Lawyers’ Conference (with many more to come). All our partner lawyers—from the U.S. to Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and more—joined us. One of the key objectives of gathering these excellent legal minds was to discuss new EU regulations that directly impact every claim you submit to COPY-IDENT. We specifically focused on DIRECTIVE (EU) 2019/790 of the European Parliament and the Council on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market, which targets copyright infringements on third-party, user-generated content platforms.
INFRINGERS ON AMAZON
User-generated content on third-party platforms has long been difficult to pursue legally, especially for individual photographers. If someone uses your product images on platforms like Amazon, for example, it has been nearly impossible to gain access to the actual seller’s private information. Our discussions concluded that the new directive offers additional support for our clients in the future, but we will need to wait for the directive to be enforced in court. As soon as we see cases moving through the legal system, we will, of course, update you!

The key takeaway is that COPY-IDENT was ahead of the curve on this issue before it even became widespread, thanks to our excellent legal partners around the globe. They continuously discuss legal changes with us to ensure we remain at the forefront of copyright law, so your work stays protected.
